Energy Use

The major problems facing our environment today, relating to IT equipment, revolve around the production, use and disposal of this developing product stream. A study by the United Nations University revealed that energy used in the production of a typical desktop computer is the equivalent to burning 260kg of fossil fuels. Over a typical life of a PC, that means 80% of all the energy used will been during manufacturing. These problems won’t go away, but with careful consideration, we can work towards a sustainable future.

According to the Carbon Trust, a PC left on all day will cost about £37 a year. But if switched off at night and at weekends, this drops to nearer £10 a year and saves an equivalent amount of energy to making 34,900 cups of coffee.

Legislation

Two major EU directives have set out to combat the problems surrounding the manufacture and disposal of all electrical and electronic equipment, the first being RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances). This limits the amounts of substances, such as lead and mercury, within the production of IT equipment and other electrical and electronic products. The other directive, which started in January 2007, is the WEEE (Waste Electrical Electronic Equipment) directive. This places the responsibility for safe disposal of IT waste with the producers and retailers.

Environmentally Safe

At Revitalise we offer an environmentally, safe and legal route to all your redundant IT problems. All equipment taken is securely wiped using industry standard software, and then diagnostically assessed for re-use. If the hardware does not meet the current specification requirements, then it will be logistically dismantled, and all components either re-used or recycled in an environmentally sound way.

Revitalise

Allow us to take the burden of your legal, safety, and environmental issues, whilst showing your commitment to the local community. We can take any IT hardware or software, and assure you that it won’t end up in a hole in the ground! All working systems that meet the required specification will be re-built, cleaned and electrically tested for re-use within the local area, offering affordable technology to the local community, and reducing the overall degradation to our environment.
